Description
Victor Goines, conductor
Richard Rodgers was one of the most successful and celebrated composers of the 20th century, writing music for more than 900 songs and for 43 Broadway musicals. His partnerships with lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II resulted in dozens of hit musicals for the stage and screen. Between 1920 and 1943 Rodgers and Hart wrote dozens of scores for Broadway and Hollywood, including The Boys from Syracuse and Pal Joey. In 1943 Rodgers teamed with Hammerstein to write Oklahoma!, a box office smash and a landmark in musical theater history. Rodgers and Hammerstein went on to write the classic musicals Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, all of which were adapted for film. Such Rodgers songs as “My Funny Valentine” and “The Lady Is a Tramp” have become jazz standards.
Tickets are $7 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty/staff, and $4 for students.
