Stephen Hough and Guests - History of the Piano

Excerpts from A Child's Garden of Dreams by David Maslanka, performed by the NU Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Fall 2008. Mallory Thompson conducts and the narrator is Rives Collins. This haunting work was composed specifically for the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and premiered at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in February 1982.

Clarinet Master Class by Karl Leister

Renowned clarinetist Karl Leister gives a master class. Leister was a child prodigy who first studied clarinet with his father, also a famous German clarinetist. Winner of numerous awards at international music competitions, he became a solo clarinetist with the Komische Oper Berlin at age 19 and went on to play with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for 30 years while enjoying an international career as a soloist and chamber musician.
