Based on Elmer Rice’s Pulitzer Prize–winning play, Street Scene opened on Broadway in 1947 and was immediately recognized as a classic American opera. The sidewalk outside a Manhattan apartment becomes the stage for comedy and drama, with the tenants as audience. New York City tenement life during the Great Depression forms the stark background for the story of Anna Maurrant, who seeks refuge from her loveless marriage – with tragic results. Whether you call it an opera or a musical, Street Scene is great theater, with a large cast of singers, dancers, actors, and children that brings 1930s New York to life.

Street Scene is presented through special arrangements with European American Music Distributors, LLC.
