Spektral Quartet: Break Right Through That Line
When: Mon, Dec 5, 2011 - 7:30 pm
Where: Lutkin Hall
Aurelien Fort Pederzoli and J. Austin Wulliman, violin; Doyle Armbrust, viola; Russell Rolen, cello
As committed to performing in non-traditional venues as concert halls, the Spektral Quartet is emerging as an ensemble of polished musicality and innovative programming. The foursome endeavors to perform the likes of Beethoven and Haydn equally alongside contemporary composers Adés and Glass. Recent Chicago-area engagements have included recording commissions from composers George Flynn and Chris Fisher-Lochhead, as well as Ensemble Dal Niente founder Kirsten Broberg. Chicago Classical Review praises the quartet’s “special knack for finding a satisfying balance of style, soul, and seriousness.” Their performance features compositions by Bienen School of Music faculty members Lee Hyla, Hans Thomalla, and Jay Alan Yim as well as works by Chris Fisher-Lochhead and Eliza Brown.
Lee Hyla, String Quartet No. 4
Hans Thomalla, Albumblatt
Chris Fisher-Lochhead, Dig Absolutely
Jay Alan Yim, The Blue Voice of Air
Eliza Brown, String Quartet No. 1
