Habib Koité

When: Thu, Feb 27, 2014 - 7:30 pm

Where: Pick-Staiger Concert Hall

With his band of brilliant West African musicians, Habib Koité showcases the rich and diverse sounds of Mali, blended seamlessly with Afro-Cuban, flamenco, and blues influences. With more than 250,000 albums sold worldwide and collaborations with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Eric Bibb, and Gary Davis, the singer-guitarist-griot is one of Africa’s most beloved and popular musicians. The New York Times enthuses, “His reputation as a guitar player has become almost mythical, combining rock and classical techniques with Malian tunings that make the guitar sound like a kora or ngoni.” Don’t miss this lively and vibrant evening of music showcasing songs from Koité's new album Soô, presented in conjunction with One Book One Northwestern—this year featuring The Last Hunger Season by Roger Thurow.
