“Hough makes you hold your breath,” proclaims London’s Evening Standard, “the better to savor perfectly calibrated tonal weighting and exquisite half-lights.” Since winning first prize in the 1983 Naumburg International Piano Competition, Stephen Hough has appeared regularly with most of the major American and European orchestras. Recipient of eight Gramophone Awards and four Grammy nominations for his recordings, he was awarded a 2001 MacArthur Fellowship and the Bienen School’s 2008 Jean Gimbel Lane Prize in Piano Performance. Hough’s program includes his own Sonata III (Trinitas), Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, Franck’s Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue, and Liszt’s Valses oubliées Nos. 1 and 2 and Transcendental Etudes Nos. 10 and 11.
